Nestled on a private island in Lake Baringo, Kenya, Samatian Island is the ultimate getaway destination. With breathtaking views of the lake and the Laikipia Escarpment, our exclusive island offers a truly unique experience.
Samatian is a privately owned island, managed and run by Ross and Caro Withey, who have a long history in the safari industry.
The island is booked on a self catering basis, however, it can be catered on request when making your booking.
Our Accommodations
Indulge in luxury at Samatian Island. Our accommodations feature stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Each of the rooms are open fronted giving you uninterrupted scenic views.
Each Room is en-Suite with a hot shower.
Fans are provided in all rooms and the Mess area.
We have two family rooms, and two double rooms, accommodating a total of 14 people.
Main Areas
We have an amazing main mess which is made up of a lounge area, large dining table, bar, and sun loungers - the perfect space for entertaining guests of all ages and preferences.
A new pool is the latest feature to Samatian Island, the perfect spot to cool down in the Baringo Heat.
Island Activities
At Samatian Island, there's no shortage of things to do. Take a dip in the pool, explore the island, or simply relax at the mess with a drink in hand. Scenic boat tours, and a trip to Ruko Community Conservancy - set up and supported by Ross and Caro are all a possibility.
Dining Experience
As a self-catering camp, guests are to provide all their food and drink which can then be prepared by our island staff. All meals are eaten in our mess area, which overlooks the pool and the lake. The main mess has a lovely seating area, dining area and bar - sure to entertain guests of all ages.

Mobile Expeditions
Ross and Caro are also the owners of Mobile Expeditions, a safari company with a high-end, luxury tented camp in the Maasai Mara. This company was started by Caro's father, Willie Roberts, a well-known safari guide and leading light in the Kenya tourism industry.
Samatian Island was originally a family home for both generations and is where both Wille and Caro grew up.
