What to bring:

All your own food and drink with a menu plan for the chef. Drinking water is provided.

Sun protection – hat, sun cream, sunglasses, walking shoes, sandals, waterproof jacket, jersey, swimwear, sarongs or kikois and other required items of clothing, Insect repellent, torches, cameras, binoculars, bird books, a good book, personal medical supplies.

It is essential to have medical insurance whilst visiting Kenya, and also recommended to take out Flying Doctor cover.

Samatian is Self Catered so bring all your own food and drinks and our team of staff will cook and clean for you, If you would like your stay to be catered this can be arranged by special request. Our office will email you a list of recommended meals and a basic shopping list to help with the planning. Kindly let the cooks know as soon as possible the meal plans & timings to give them sufficient time to get your meals prepared. We provide filtered lake water for drinking and ice. We have a fully equipped kitchen with a four burner gas cooker with oven. Also supplied is a large electric fridge with a small deep freeze and 2 chest freezers. All crockery & cutlery is supplied for up to 18 people and a barbecue grill for your use. Visitors can buy basic goods, most sodas & beer in Kampi Ya Samaki. Salt, pepper, matches, filtered water etc. are provided. Hot water for showers is provided by means of a kuni boiler & will be lit each morning & evening.
Woo is our resident Verreaux Eagle Owl. He has been with us for around 16 years. He may sing away on the roof at night or join you near the dining room at night. Please don't feed him at the table.
Guests are requested to vacate the Island by 10.00 A.M. on their day of departure. Guests are requested NOT to check in prior to 12 P.M to give sufficient time to the staff to prepare the rooms (unless prior arrangement has been made with management).
Our guests are kindly requested to take home their empty glass, tins and plastic bottles with them on departure. This ensures our human footprint on the island is kept to a minimum. We have no recycling center nearby. Please remember to check the kitchen for all cool boxes or items you want to return home with.
Registration form: You will be issued a registration form, please fill this in on your arrival and give to Richard if you have not already emailed this. Each person in the group must sign, or parent on behalf of a child. This is a requirement by law.
